Open road to Falaise
The open road to Falaise this section of road was about 5 miles long without a bend.We enjoyed the drive to the town which is built on a hillside. The town and the area round it was the site of a major battle during the Second World War from 12–21 August 1944. However our trip was to visit the castle of William the Conqueror who was born in the town. The photo shows you his statue in the main square in front of the old church. The castle entrance is about 100yds away. There is plenty of places to park round the castle. The town has a good choice of places to eat the most popular restaurants in town or you could do what we did We bought two freshly made baguettes with cheese and salad from the shop in the picture. Which we ate in the castle car park. There is a picnic area right in front of the castle walls. William the Conqueror

Try this Gitea few miles from where we stayed
Situated at the edge of a peaceful hamlet, and close to the coastal town of Honfleur, this pretty half-colombage detached holiday home has been beautifully restored by its owners. The large garden offers plenty of shade from mature trees and you can see the tip of the Pont de Normandie beyond the church spire. Honfleur (5km) is perhaps the most recognised of Normandy?s coastal towns and has become a mecca for artists from all over the world. with its picturesque cobbled streets and harbour, Try a camping holiday in France there are campsites all over France.
