The battlefield
The photo was taken on the battlefield you can see how the ground slopes down. The English army set up at the top of the slope which gave them an advantage. The French forces had to attack uphill and did not realise the power of the longbow. The French forces numbered approx 36,000 to the English approx 12,000 about 7,000 were archers. The Battle of Crecy was fought on August 26, 1346 the battle lasted around 8 hours and the French were defeated. |
