The Ardres Christmas Marketis held on the Sunday around about the 14th of December. We have just visited the market you follow the signs for the town centre.

The first stall we came to was the mulled wine and hot chestnuts
you can see in the photo. The hot wine was a euro for a large glass
and on a cold day was very welcome.We also had a bag of chestnuts for 2 euros
which kept your hands warm all round the market

The market had a good range of handmade gifts and craft items
food and jewellery.We bought a couple of gifts for 15 euros and were
amazed at the trouble the stall holder went to gift wrap them.We will
certainly go back next Xmas
A ride round the market
UpdateAnother year as come round and we are back at Ardres for the Christmas market.We were a little surprised to find a camel in the car park but then noticed there was a small circus in town.I have added a few photos to the side of the page of this years market.
This years Christmas market 2010 a nice mix of food and homemade gifts we bought some items from a church stall which was run by two English ladies now living in the area

We stayed in a gite just outside Calais if you would like to do the same try here This cottage is a few miles from Ambleteuse in the village of Les Coquelicots
On the edge of the village with fine country views and walks from the door. 46 kms from Calais, 12 kms from the very popular resort of Hardelot Plage and 17 kms from Wimereux. Tennis 2 kms, horse-riding 4 kms, shops 5 kms, swimming pool and sailing 12 kms. Calais is only a few miles from Ardres and has plenty of hotels in all price ranges.There are lots of Christmas markets within a short drive Le Cercle De Malines Bed and Breakfast Calais
