BethuneBethuneis an old town about halfway between St Omer and Arras. We were on our way back from a visit to the WWl battlefield at Vimy Ridge Just outside of the city of Arras. When we saw the sign to Bethune on the A26 motorway we had not been there before so decided to visit the town.As you get closer to the town you notice several large coal tips but do not be put off.This is a nice market town with attractive red-brick buildings. The town was almost destroyed in WWl by fighting and shelling.The 14th century belfry tower was all that was left. Bethune town centre
Bethune has a good selection of quality shops and cafes to walk round.
There is car parking in the street as well as a main car park.
A local market is held every Monday morning in the town centre
with a wide range of items to buy.
