Cassel is a small town about 25 miles from Calais and the coast.

The town has been the site of several battles dating back to 1071.

It was used in WW1 as French headquarters for Marechal Foch. Much of it was destroyed by bombardments during the English army retreat to Dunkerque in WWll.
