DouaiWe visited the old town of Douai on our way back from
the city of Arras
is about 16 miles away and well worth a visit.
So is the battlefield and museum at Vimy Ridge
Douai was badly damaged in both World Wars luckily the large Gothic bellfry is still there on rue de la Mairie. The bells ring every 15 mins. You can see the belfry in the first photo. We visited the town just before Christmas 2008 to see the Christmas market on Place d`Armes Douai Bellfry town centre
Douai has a easy to walk round town centre starting at Place d`Armes.
The streets off are packed with shops and cafe bars. The photo below shows

It was to cold to hang around so we will have to go back in summer
