Gratin Dauphinois a simple recipe
Blanch the potatoes and the onions for 30 secs in boiling water then drain. Put a layer of potatoes in the bottom of a greased casserole dish. Dot with a little of the butter and sprinkle with some onion and cheese. Also a little salt and pepper and nutmeg, then pour some of the cream on top. Repeat this until all of the ingredients are used. Finishing with a layer of cheese. Pour the remaining cream on the top. Cover and bake in a fairly hot oven 190c or 375f gas 5 for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and place under the grill for 5 mins. Or until the top of the cheese is golden brown and bubbling.
