The town of Honfleur is in Normandy near Le Havre on the south bank of the estuary of the river Seine.

This old maritime town is well known for its much photographed and painted old port. With its slate cover houses which you can see in the photos.

The town centre with its picturesque cobbled streets and houses is a Heritage area and safeguarded from development.

There is a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants to walk round. Popular places to eat in the port you can find a meal from £10. On Saturday mornings there is a local market in Honfleur on the car park just behind the Church.If it is raining try Naturospace an indoor rain forest at Boulevard Charles V Honfleur.A short walk from the town centre.

It is worth visiting Sainte-Catherine church it is the largest wood built church in France with its separate bell tower.

The dock area of the port is popular with artists from Claude Monet to the present day.

The town has two main beaches Spoils and Vasouy follow the sign to Trouville. There are Guided tours around Honfleur we liked the walk round the forest of Breuil about 2 miles outside town.

There is a mound which raise above the town you can see the valley of the Seine and the Bridge of Normandy which connects Honfleur to Le Havre.

The photo below shows the bridge we have crossed it many times but usually in the dark. This was the first time I have seen it in daylight.
