We visit the small town of Wimereux about twice a year. It is one of our favourite seaside towns in Northern France.We had been to the Calais Christmas Market.

We decided to take the coast road back to our rented Gite in the village of Wierre Effroy. This is a journey of about 25 miles you pass through Wissant and Cap Gris-Nes to the village of Ambleteuse.

On the road between Ambleteuse and Wimereux you pass Wimereux golf course on your left. The course is set in the sand hills a real seaside course. On the other side there are several car parks on the edge of the cliffs. Where you can look out across the bay and the channel.

Golf de Wimereux

This is the perfect course to start or end your golf break. There aren’t many other true links courses in France.

We reached Wimereux at 11 30 am just in time to catch the local Friday market. It is on till about 2 pm and starts at 9 am. You can find it in the town centre on the main car park.There is the usual range of fresh local produce.

I can recommend the French fries on a baguette you can buy at the first stall in the market.If you want a sit down meal there are plenty of reasonable priced restaurants to try prices from £12.

The main crossroad into the town the market is held behind the large building.You have to go passed the building and turn left to get into the town centre.You can just see my wife in the wing mirror taking this photo. Not bad as we were moving at 20 mph
