We found out about the village of Licques when we visited the tourist office in Ardres They told us about the river Hem valley and recommend several villages to visit.

Although we stay in the area a couple of times a year in the nearby town of Marquise. We did not know about this lovely valley 10 miles down the road.

Our visit was in December on a cold Winter morning.Licques has several shops two large quality furniture shops and cafe bars.Which is good for a smallish village in a rural setting.

The village main claim to fame is it turkey fare held around the 13 / 14 December. We just missed it by one day you can see one of the marquee tents in the photo. The turkeys are paraded through the streets.You can buy one of these corn feed free range birds at the market.

Try P&O for your Dover to Calais ferry

This cottage is a few miles from Ambleteuse in the village of Les Coquelicots

On the edge of the village with fine country views and walks from the door. 46 kms from Calais, 12 kms from the very popular resort of Hardelot Plage and 17 kms from Wimereux.

Tennis 2 kms, horse-riding 4 kms, shops 5 kms, swimming pool and sailing 12 kms.
