Locronan is an old village in the Bretagne region of France.

It is about 5 miles from the sea and 10 miles from Quimper one of the larger towns in the area.

The village is very attractive with its cobble streets and stone built houses, made from local granite.

We arrived in the village by car you can park on the edge of Locronan for a cost of about £2. I think the ticket said it was valid for a year so you can take your time over your visit.

There is a good tourist office next to a local history museum both are worth a visit for information on the area.

In the town centre is the 15th century St Ronan church. Which is a granite construction the interior has ribbed vaults, and contains a beautiful stained glass window.

The village has been used as a film set in several films.

Today the village main source of income is from the tourists who buy wooden statues and pottery made by local artisans.

There are many small side streets with craft shops, cafes and restaurants. We also saw several antique shops. The town looks quiet in the photos taken at dinner time in November but gets very busy in the summer.Visit the village market

While you are in the area the forest of Nevet, and the beach at the bay of Douarnenez about 5 miles away. The bay has several very clean sandy beaches to visit.

Just an update

We have visited the village again this time in late October.It was a nice sunny day for the time of year.We arrived about 9 30am so parking was easy just on the edge of the village.

We had the place to ourselves as it was a little out of the tourist season.
