Menton is in the Côte d'Azur region of France a mile from the Italian border.

On the Mediterranean coast with the Ligurian Alps at the back of the town.

It gives the town a warm climate most of the year and shelters it form the cold Mistral winds you get on this coast.

The area used to earn most of its income from the lemon, tangerine and orange groves. Now most of its income is from tourist.

Every year in February the "Lemon Festival" is held in the town.

They build statues covered with lemons and oranges some are driven round the street on trucks.

The Casino Gardens are also used for the displays as you can see in the photo.

Places to eat in the town there are lots of restaurants to suit all taste and price ranges

Places to visit try the Val Rameh Botanical gardens about half a mile from the town centre.You will find the gardens on Avenue St Jacques 06500. We just wandered round on our own but you can take a guided tour for a small fee.

There is another nice garden to visit at Serre de la Madone about a mile out of town on 74 route de Gorbio 06500.

The art museum La Salle des Mariages on Rue de la Republique is worth a visit it is part of the sea wall

The old town has the usual shops and cafes and a local daily food market.

Visit the Place Saint Michel and see the mosaic cobblestones.
