PonthoilePonthoile is a village on the edge of the Somme
estuary. We were travelling to the port of Saint Valery sur Somme
and the sat nav brought us this way. This is the great thing about
driving in France there are so many villages like this. That are waiting
to be discovered most you will never have heard of.
The chateau farm in the photo had a for sale sign in June 2008 when
we were there. It would make an ideal place to live the village still
has a local school. The chateau looks like the one that Gaston and
Rene Caudron made their first flight. In 1909 in airplane designed and
built by them.
The Chateau or Manor house in Ponthoile
The first photo shows the village school The second shows the church of Eglise Saint Pierre which dated back to the 13 century. It was burned down just before the battle of Crecy The front of the building seems to be original the rest has been
restored
The sign to the village and also a nearby camping site we
did not see any B/Bs in the village. You can also see the local
shop/ bar

The farmhouse and cottages of La Returais are part of what used to be a working hamlet in the 16-1700?s. This beautifully restored farm hamlet retains plenty of the original rustic charm with its old oak beams and huge stone fireplaces.
