Port of Calais
Port of Calais we arrive in Calais usually on a PO ferry about 3 times a year.We then take the A16 motorway south and pass round the town.So this year while we had more time we decided to explore more of the town. We were touring round the Christmas Markets in a 20 mile radius of Calais. The first place we headed for was the seafront follow the signs for plage.As you can see in the photo it is a good flat Promonade with plenty of parking. The beach was very clean and had maybe one hundred beach huts could be more. So it must be very popular in summer.
We were there on the 12th of December . Although it was a nice sunny day there was a cold wind blowing that day not ideal for the beach. Most people would be inside the

We called in for a coffee and a piece of apple tarte very welcome on a cold
winters day.If you need a Restaurant try these
Our choice of hotel for this trip would not suit everybody you find a lot of negative comment on Tripadvisor type sites against budget hotels.This hotel is next to a large Leclerc supermarket and several other large retail outlets.Most of the stores were shut by 8 pm.
So to the plus point the room was clean and had everything you needed for a couple of nights including free WiFi.A good breakfast friendly staff safe parking it is about a mile to the centre of Boulogne where you can easy spend 2 days.
The hotel is just a mile from the A16 the main motorway for this coast which is another plus.there are a lot of seaside towns and village just a short drive away.

Update
The hotel as been knocked down and one of the first KFC drive through I have seen in France is in its place. So we will have to stay at another Ibis Hotel in the area for our next visit.The seaside village of Wissant is only a short drive away
