The old village of Riquewihr is enclosed in its medieval walls. It is overlooked by a castle which is now used as a museum.

The village is in one of the richest wine growing areas in the Alsace region.

The village is a major tourist spot for people driving along the Alsace wine route.

If you arrive by car leave it outside the walls the village is mainly pedestrian.

Nearly every house is brightly painted with a mixture of balconies and flower boxes. Many have cobbled courtyards one of the things I noticed was the shop signs. Made out of iron the very old ones are now in the postal museum.

The village has plenty of shops, wine cellars and cafes. At the tourist office you can take guided tours of the old town from the end of June to the beginning of September.

There is a little train that take you through the vineyards.You can try some of the local wines at Higel et Fils 3, rue de la premiere armee 68340
