Saint Quay Portrieux is a seaside town located in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany in France. It is one of the most picturesque fishing ports in Brittany and has a long history that dates back to the Middle Ages. It is located about 65 miles from Saint Malo just over an hours drive away.It is more or less the same distance to the Port of Roscoff.
When we visited it was windy with scattered showers hence the lack of people on the beach. We had a walk round and found the tourist information office at 17 bis rue Jeanne d'Arc.They had details of upcoming events and local markets which are held on Monday and Friday. You can go on a boat trip on a trawler or an old sailing boat. There are 5 beaches near the town we saw 3 of them during our visit it was not really beach weather. We walked a short distance along one of the coastal paths you get a great view unfortunately the rain got the better of us.We saw enough on our short visit to want to come back on a better day and spend more time here and maybe stay a couple of days.
The town was founded as a fishing port in the 12th century by the monks of the nearby Abbey of Saint Quay. It was a major port for many centuries, and was a popular destination for pilgrims travelling to the nearby abbey.
The town has a beautiful harbour which is lined with colourful houses. There is also a long sandy beach, and a promenade which is lined with restaurants, bars and cafes. There is a marina which is home to many sailing boats, and a lighthouse which stands at the entrance of the harbour.
The town has a number of interesting places to visit, including the Abbey of Saint Quay, which was founded in the 12th century and is a great example of medieval architecture. The nearby Château de la Roche-Derrien is also worth a visit, as it dates back to the 15th century and has stunning views of the bay.
Nearby, the town of Lannion is home to a number of interesting attractions, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which is a museum of fine arts, and the Château de Kerjean, which is a castle dating back to the 17th century. The city of Saint-Brieuc is also nearby and is home to a number of interesting sights including the Cathedrale Saint-Etienne.
Saint Quay Portrieux is a beautiful seaside town with a rich history and plenty of interesting sights and attractions. From its beautiful harbour to its nearby attractions, it is a great destination for a day trip or a longer stay.
Chateau de Chambord is an enchanting destination nestled in the heart of the Loir et Cher region in France.
