The old French town of Semur en AuxoisThe old French town of Semur-en-Auxois is in the Burgundy region. It is about 25 miles from The town of Avallon. The town is one of the most attractive places in Burgundy. It is built on a rocky hillside over looking the river Armançon. Which flows through the middle of the town with houses on both sides.
The old French town of Semur-en-Auxois  The old castle walls are a popular tourist spot they are lit up at night. The town has some cobbled streets leading to the town square. With its 13th century church the centre has retained its medieval buildings. It is an area of full history just up the road in Montbard is the Abbey of Fontenay, The famous Abbey and vineyards are worth a visit. The nearby town of Alésia is also worth a visit. The road into the town  Semur has a good range of shops, cafes and a few hotels. The town has some historical gardens which go down to the river. If you are visiting on the 31st of May it holds a horse race which was first held in 1639
Houses at the top of the hill.  We stayed in a gite in a small village a few miles from the town. This is a good way to live like the locals and enjoy
the French lifestyle. It is also good value more so if several of you go together if you would like to stay in a Gite try here Try P&O for your Dover to Calais ferry
