Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small town built round one of the deepest harbour in the world.

It is about 4 miles from Nice. The town is well restored with brightly painted houses along the seafront.

The port is mainly for tourists but it still has some fishing boats. You can book a boat trip during the summer months. There are plenty of restaurants in this area. Here is a list of the most popular and a guide to the cost of a meal out.

At the end of the fishing wharves you come to the beach. A local Map of the area The sunny climate most of the year and the charm of the old town make this a busy tourist spot.

If you have a car it is well worth taking one of the coast roads [ Corniches ] that go from Nice to Italy.

If you take the highest road the grande corniche you will be rewarded with some great views of the coast and the hills.

There are several unspoilt little hill villages only a few miles from the sea. Which make perfect places to go for lunch away from the crowds on the coast. Just to name some I have visited Ste Agnes, Gorbio, Peillon, Peille and the village of Eze
