William the Conqueror Chateau Guillaume Le Conquerant our visit to this medieval castle
in the town of Falaise in the Calvados region Normandy.
Sign to the Chateau
The Chateau Guillaume Le Conquerant is easy to find just follow the signs or the castle walls. The entrance is in the square with the statue of William on a horse. The Chateau is being restored the work as been ongoing for many years. At the time of our visit in June 2009 most of the work was on the walls. The castle entrance fee when we were there was 7 euros which was good value and you could park for free. You entered through a book and gift shop where you are given a set of headphones in your language. The headphones picked up the music and narratives as you walked round the rooms in the fortress. It was an interesting visit you could wander round at your own pace. The views from the top of the keep over the town were worth the climb. The Chateau entrance
View of Falaise form the castle wallsUpdateThe Castle has a new exhibition about William from 1066 and how he still influence us to this day. To demonstrate this, many models, archaeological artefacts, maps, panels, projections and workshops will be available. The daily life of builders and craftsmen will be on display and the typical settings of a Lord's court with his family will be recreated. Finally, many aspects of daily life will be recreated inside the Great Keep. The main aspects will concern the public use of the Aula : dealing out justice, receiving counsel or gathering important local figures. The furniture used (chests, bed, seats, throne) will be especially crafted and installed on location. adult : 7,5 euro

Situated at the edge of a peaceful hamlet, and close to the coastal town of Honfleur, this pretty half-colombage detached holiday home has been beautifully restored by its owners. The large garden offers plenty of shade from mature trees and you can see the tip of the Pont de Normandie beyond the church spire. Honfleur (5km) is perhaps the most recognised of Normandy?s coastal towns and has become a mecca for artists from all over the world. with its picturesque cobbled streets and harbour, Holiday cottages to rent in Brittany
