Wissant is an old seaside village on the Cote d Opale France.

It is about 10 miles from Calais The village centre can be seen in the first photo.

If you walk down the street and turn left the beach is just 100yds.

The fishermen bring the boats right into the centre of the village.

You can buy the fish straight off the boats It dose not get much fresher than that.

The village has the usual mixture of shops, cafes and restaurants.

I also notice some hotels and B/Bs you could rent a Gite as well.

The tourist office was helpful and spoke English.

An old mill in the village centre as been turned into a heritage centre.

Inside the mill is pinewood and cast iron machinery. You can smell the wax and flour from its working life.

After the museum we went down to the beach you can walk or take the car.

There is parking almost on the beach we had a picnic in the sand dunes.

Or you can go to one of the cafes overlooking the sea. Bed and breakfast information in the village

The beach at Wissant

We always stay in a gite. This is a good way to live like the locals and enjoy the French lifestyle. It is also good value more so if several of you go together

There is a lake in the grounds with free fishing for carp, roach and perch.

There are exposed beams in every room and a welcoming open fire in the lounge, and a games room with billiards and darts.
