Mont-St-Michel is a rocky island on the Normandy coast. It rises out of a wide sandy bay with one of highest tide in Europe. The tides can vary as much as 15m and the car park can be under water so time your visit.
Le Mont-St-Michel  At the top of the Mont is the gothic fortress abbey. The cobble streets up to the Abbey are lined with half timbered buildings.There are a lot of steps to the abbey at the top it can be tiring on a hot day so you are better going early. Which contain the usual tourist shops, cafes and expensive restaurants. It gets very crowded in the summer. I found walking along the ramparts less busy and the sea views are spectacular.

Hotel Montgomery
Hotel Montgomery lies on the very doorstep of Mont Saint Michel. Five minutes drive from Mont Saint Michel, Pontorson is a nice little town, ideally situated between Normandy and Britanny Close to the sea and many famous places like Cancale, Saint-Malo, Dinard Granville Built in the 16th century, the historical character of the main building has been beautifully preserved with the grand staircase and the renaissance-style beams. The bay is home to many rare sea plants. The nearby island of Tombelaine is a bird reserve. Although it dose get very busy it is a good day out and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
