The Port is famous for its seafood, and the Boulogne harbour is home to a bustling fish market where you can find the freshest catches of the day. From crab and lobster to mackerel and sole, the variety of seafood on offer is truly impressive.
Our favorite street in the old town is Bd du Prince Albert. Which is a cobbled street with Bars and Restaurants in the middle of the old town.
One of the must-visit destinations for foodies is the Rue de Lille, a street lined with artisanal food shops, bakeries, and cafes. Here you can find the famous Boulogne chocolate, which is a unique blend of milk and dark chocolate that is exclusive to the region.
If you are a cheese lover, you cannot leave Boulogne without trying the local Maroilles cheese. This cheese is made from cow's milk and has a strong and pungent aroma that may be overwhelming at first, but its rich and creamy texture will make you fall in love with it.
Finally, no trip to Boulogne would be complete without trying the local beer, La Choulette. This beer is brewed using traditional methods and has a unique flavor that is both sweet and bitter at the same time.
One of the most popular traditional dishes of Boulogne is the 'potjevleesch', a cold dish made of three different types of meat and is served with pickles and bread. It's a must-try dish for anyone visiting the area for the first time, and it's best enjoyed in a traditional restaurant.
There are many traditional restaurants in Boulogne that offer a wide range of regional dishes. 'La Matelote', located in the old town, is renowned for its seafood dishes, which are cooked with the freshest fish from the nearby coast. 'Le Grillardin' offers a more rustic dining experience with its traditional French cuisine and charming ambiance.
For those who are looking for a more casual dining experience, 'La Frite à Gogo' is a great choice. This restaurant is famous for its fries and offers a variety of traditional sauces to accompany them. When visiting Boulogne, make sure to try some of the traditional dishes and visit at least one of these restaurants to experience the local cuisine. Your taste buds will thank you for it!
One of the best things about touring Boulogne is that you get to indulge in the local culinary delights. Bakeries and patisseries in Boulogne are famous for their delicious pastries, bread, and cakes. Here are some of the best bakeries and patisseries in the area that you should definitely check out:
1. La Boulangerie de l’Immaculée: This bakery is located in the heart of the city and is known for its delicious traditional French bread. They also serve a variety of pastries and cakes, including croissants, pain au chocolat, and tarts.
2. Pâtisserie-Chocolaterie Robillard: This patisserie is famous for its chocolate creations, including truffles, pralines, and chocolate bars. You can also find a variety of pastries and cakes here, including the famous Boulogne brioche.
3. Le Fournil Saint-Louis: This bakery is located near the city's historic ramparts and is known for its delicious baguettes and croissants. They also serve a variety of sweet and savory pastries, including quiches and tarts.
4. Pâtisserie Cuche et Fils: This patisserie is located in the city center and is known for its delicious macarons and cakes. They also serve a variety of bread and pastries, including croissants, pain au chocolat, and eclairs.
All of these bakeries and patisseries offer a unique taste of Boulogne's culinary scene and are definitely worth a visit. Don't forget to try some of their specialties and take some home with you to savor the flavors of Boulogne even after your trip is over.
For those looking to try local specialties, we highly recommend the fish soup, moules marinieres, and the famous Boulogne sausage. Don't forget to visit the local bakeries for a taste of the delicious pastries and bread that the region is famous for. This quaint town is full of history,
