Ravenoville Plage a village in Normandy
Ravenoville Plage is a beautiful seaside village located in the region of Normandy, France. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when it was established by a local nobleman as a fishing village. During the 16th century, the village was destroyed by a fire and was then rebuilt in the 17th century. Since then, Ravenoville Plage has developed into a popular destination for tourists and is renowned for its stunning views of the English Channel. To get to the village from Cherbourg it is a 40 minute drive on the N13 road.If you are coming from Utah Beach it is about 10 minutes on the D421.The road is next to the beach all the way to Ravenoville. The short drive alone is worth the trip we visited most days just to walk along the beach.
The beach goes on for miles we were there at the end of September and had the beach to ourselves.Just walking along the edge of the sea picking up shells.The part of the beach we walk along had some of the nicest beach huts I have seen.Several were for rent for the week with full facilities. We were very tempted to book one of them for our next trip.There are one or two restaurant bars but the main attraction is the beach.We noticed a 5 star campsite where you could stay with your own caravan or hire a chalet to stay in.
Places to visit there are several villages nearby Gouberville and Cosqueville and Neville sur Mer
The fishing port of Barfleur is a must visit while you are only a few mile away. We also liked the village and lighthouse at Gattenville Phare
The village itself is a picturesque place, with winding cobbled streets and colorful buildings. There is a small harbour where fishing boats regularly come and go, and a number of shops and cafes to explore.
For history buffs, the village has two historic churches, one of which is the Church of St. Pierre, which dates back to the 13th century.
Nearby attractions include the medieval castle of Mont Saint Michel, the ancient walled city of Bayeux, and the beautiful beaches of Deauville. Other activities in the area include hiking, biking, kayaking, and windsurfing. There are also many excellent restaurants and bars in the area, serving local delicacies such as oysters, mussels, and cider. For a truly memorable experience, visitors can take a boat trip to the nearby Îles Chausey archipelago.
