A visit to the Palace of Versailles

If you're ever planning on visiting the Palace of Versailles in France, you'll want to read this post first. This famous Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. So before you go, make sure to know the facts about this amazing Palace
Even though the Palace of Versailles is open to the public, it is still a royal Palace and as such, certain rules and regulations must be followed.
First and foremost, visitors are not allowed to take pictures in any of the royal rooms. This includes the Throne Room, the Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Gallery, and the State Apartments. There are also dress codes that must be followed. No jeans, no sneakers, and no hats. If you are visiting in the summer, be prepared for some hot weather. Bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and clothes that you can layer. And last but not least, be sure to arrive early. The Palace of Versailles can get very crowded and it can be difficult to find a spot to take a picture or even to walk around.
Here are just a few of the highlights you'll see on your visit
The Grandeur of the Palace The Hall of Mirrors The Hall of the Hundred Columns The Sun King's Apartments The Queen's Apartments The Petit Trianon The Gardens of Versailles
The Tapestries in the Grand State Bedroom The Porcelain in the Grand State Bedroom The Marble in the Grand State Bedroom The Paintings in the Grand State Bedroom The Furniture in the Grand State Bedroom

There is a lot to see when visiting this historic site.

Be aware of the dress code. While the Palace of Versailles is open to the public, it is still a Royal Palace and visitors are expected to dress accordingly. This means no sandals, shorts, sleeveless shirts, or hats. By following these simple tips, you'll have a great time at the Palace of Versailles and avoid any potential inconvenience.

Palace of Versailles
The Palace is open from 9am to 5pm from April to October, and 9am to 6pm from November to March. The palace is closed on Mondays and major holidays. You can enter the Palace for a fee of €14 for adults, €7 for students and seniors, and €5 for children ages 6 to 17.
The Palace is huge, so it's best to plan your visit wisely. There are tours available from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily, and they last about two hours. If you want to see the gardens, you'll need to purchase a ticket.
The Palace was originally commissioned by Louis XIV in 1662 as a hunting lodge for himself and his courtiers.Construction on the palace began in 1664 and took more than 20 years to complete.
Once you enter the Palace, you'll be awestruck by the sheer size and scope of the structure. You'll see hundreds of rooms, some with elaborate ceiling frescoes and marble floors.

Palace of Versailles
Although the Palace of Versailles is open every day of the year, the peak season for visitors is from May to September. This is when the Palace is at its busiest and the queues can be long. To avoid the queues, try to visit during the week or on a day when the palace is closed for a private event. If you do visit during the peak season, make sure to avoid the following:
- Going on the tour of the Palace. Tours are extremely popular and can be very busy.- Visiting the palace at night. The palace is brightly lit and can be quite daunting in the dark.
Taking pictures of the palace. Although you're free to take pictures outside of the Palace, it's not advisable to take pictures of the Palace itself. This is particularly important during the tour, when photography is not permitted.- Eating inside the palace. This can be very expensive and very busy. There are many restaurants located outside of the Palace that are much cheaper and more enjoyable.
