The village of Giverny is in the Normandy region of France.

It is about 50 miles from Paris and is right on the banks of the river Seine where it meets the River Epte.

It is a small village with 2 main streets which are joined by narrow lanes.

One of the roads is named after the painter Claude Monet who lived in the village.

He is buried in the family vault near the village church.

The area has always been popular with artists it is well worth visiting the Musée d'Art Américain on 99 rue Claude Monet 27620 in Giverny.

If you want to see paintings by Monet you need to visit the near by town of Vernon.

There is a Monet museum in the town. Most people visit Giverny to see Monet's house and gardens which have been restored.The gardens are on rue Claude Monet 27620 entrance was free when we visited

They are a very busy with tourist in the summer when the garden are in full bloom. Places to eat in the village prices from £10

The nearby town of Vernon has plenty of shops, cafes, etc and good local produce market on Wednesday mornings.

To see the area fully try this former watermill in a village a short distance away from Giverny.
