Vouvant is one of the prettiest villages in France it is in the Vendee region a few miles from Fontenay.

We found it quite by chance just driving around i saw a sign in English which said the most beautiful village in France.

We had to turn off and have a look,the village is beside a river which flows round both sides and forms a natural defence moat.

There is some of the castle keep left standing see picture and some of the walls.

It was June when we visited a very hot day 90f but like a lot of rural france the village was deserted people only come back at the weekends.

It was nice to have the place to ourselves there a very old church some interesting little streets plus free parking.

There are a few shops, bars and a restaurant or two
