The port is about 40 miles from where we were staying. In Saint-Jean-d'Angely it was a pleasant one hour drive.
We found when visiting the town of La Rochelle that the underground car park in the centre is best for the shops. When you come up from the car park you are in a market with some of the best fresh food in France. The bread and the fresh chicken was the best we have tasted.Just across the road are the main shopping streets you will need a day to get round them all.Places to eat you can get a restaurant meal prices
Lighthouse and marina La Rochelle
The airport reminds me of a small private flying club but it dose the job. If you are in a car you are just 3 miles from the town centre or take the second turn on the left as you leave the airport and you are on the motorway.
La Rochelle has a pleasant harbour and cafe area my son should know he spent 7 hours there when i miscalculated the tine it took to drive from Calais.
In the port area you will find probably the best sea life centre in Europe it is open all year. This is interesting place to spend a few hours for all ages.
There is a large car park right in front of the building.
The Port of La Rochelle is one of the oldest and ports in France. Founded in the 12th century, it was initially a fishing port, but it later became a major trading port in the Middle Ages. It was used by the French navy and became a major commercial port in the 19th century. The port is now used mainly for recreational sailing, but it also serves as a ferry port and has some commercial shipping.
The Port of La Rochelle is a great place to visit and explore. There are a variety of attractions to enjoy, such as the Maritime Museum, the Aquarium, the Tour Saint Nicolas, the Old Port, and the Tour de la Lanterne.
The New World Museum a history museum at 10 rue Fleuriau is also worth a visit. The tour de La Lanterne great views from the three towers over the harbour There are also plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes to explore.
Places to Visit Nearby: The city of La Rochelle is a great place to explore. There are many attractions to enjoy, such as the historic centre, the beaches, the islands, the museums, and the parks.
