If you are visiting Albi for the first time, there are plenty of things to see and do. Start your visit in the historic city center, where you can explore the old city walls, visit the magnificent Cathedrale Ste-Cecile, and take a stroll along the cobblestoned lanes. The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum is located in the city center and is the perfect place to learn about the life and work of the famous artist.
Continue your day with a visit to the Musée de l Évêché, a museum dedicated to art and history located in the old bishop's palace. Be sure to take some time to explore the city's many gardens, including the Jardin des Paradis, as well as the botanical gardens.
For a different perspective on Albi, take a boat ride down the Tarn River. This is a great opportunity to admire the beautiful scenery and take some pictures of the city from the water.
At the end of the day, enjoy a meal at one of Albi's many restaurants. There are plenty of options to choose from, so you are sure to find something to satisfy your appetite. After dinner, grab a drink at one of the city's pubs and enjoy the atmosphere of this charming town.
You can see in the first photo the Old Bridge built in 1035 it was originally stone. Later it was clad in the red brick and tiles the same as most of the old town.
The bridge has 8 arches and is 151m long.
We liked walking round the narrow cobbled streets in the centre.
The town has plenty of small shops to look around and cafes, restaurants
There is a market on most days at place Laperouse. When we were there on a Saturday. they had a farmers market selling local produce.
This is held every Saturday we also found a Flea market at the Castelvieil market hall this is on Saturday morning as well.
I noticed they have a second hand book market on Wednesday and Saturday at the Rue Maries.
The Cathedral of Sainte Cecile is worth a visit it is quiet plain on the outside. Inside it is the complete opposite the interior decoration as to be seen.
Albi has the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum which houses the largest public collection of his work. The museum is in the 13th century former Bishop`s Palace. It is worth a visit to see the work of this famous Albi born painter.
The museum is just across the road from the Cathedral.A 5 minute walk form the town centre
A map of the town.
