Lisieux
Lisieux is in the Calvados region of Normandy. It was founded in the 5th century by St. Exupère, who named it after a village in the area. Over the centuries, Lisieux has been a major religious center, with its many abbeys and monasteries, and also a major trading hub in the region. During the Hundred Years War, the town was sacked by the English, and later by the French, during the Wars of Religion.
The town is one of the largest in the area where we were staying near Blangy le Chateau.Just outside town is the large Cerza Zoo well worth a visit. You will need the best part of a day to see all of it photos of our visit

We visited Lisieux several times during our stay in Calvados.The town is a mixture of old and new you can still see some old timber framed buildings. It has a large retail park just on the edge of town which we used for our main food shopping. There is every kind of store on the site not only food.
We shopped at the E Leclerc supermarket you could buy everything you needed there and diesel cheaper than the UK.

Places to Visit in the Town and Nearby:
Lisieux is home to several attractions that visitors can enjoy while visiting the town. The Basilica of St. Thérèse is a beautiful church dedicated to the town's patron saint, St. Thérèse of Lisieux. The Gothic style building is a popular pilgrimage site, and is home to a museum dedicated to her life. The town also has a number of other churches and abbeys dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as a castle and several historical buildings.
Nearby, visitors can explore the beaches of the Normandy region, visit a number of charming villages and towns, and explore the sites of the D-Day landings. There are also several walking and cycling trails in the area, as well as the chance to take boat trips along the River Orne. Finally, the region is known for its cider and apple brandy, and visitors can sample these local specialties while in Lisieux.
