Deauville Normandy

Located on the western coast of France, Deauville is a popular seaside resort that offers a wide range of activities and attractions. From its sandy beaches to its lively nightlife, Deauville has something for everyone.

Deauville is also a great place to visit if you're looking for a relaxing holiday. The town is laid back and there's plenty of places to stay without having to spend a fortune. Plus, the area has some of the best beaches in Normandy.

The town became very popular with the rich and famous in the 1930. People came to the Casino you could fly into the small airport right on the edge of town or the ferry to Caen.

Deauville isn't just captivating to the eyes; it's equally interesting to the history buffs. Established in the mid-19th century by Duke Charles Auguste Louis Joseph de Morny, Napoleon III's half-brother, Deauville quickly became a hot-spot for the French high society. Despite this rather fancy heritage, the town has managed to retain its humble and relaxed seaside chic allure that attracts globetrotters.

The Deauville beach, a highlight of the town, is something you simply can't miss. Its colourful parasols and large sandy stretch have won it the title of 'Queen of the Norman beaches'. It's a great beach indeed, offering visitors a relaxing retreat, with plenty of sunshine in the summertime, making it an excellent time for a visit.

When we arrived in the town we headed for the beach end near the Casino. There are lots of parking places next to the beach. There is a nice garden and park area behind the beach where we had our picnic. We then walked the short distance to the beach. Which was very clean and flat my grandchildren said the sand made perfect sand castles. We enjoyed a walk on the wooden board walk which goes all along the beach.Places to eat restaurants in the town

Horse racing fan? Then you're in luck. Deauville is famous for its prestigious, exciting horse racing, with courses renowned across France. The picturesque Deauville-La Touques Racecourse hosts numerous races throughout the year, serving up an exhilarating dose of entertainment for equine enthusiasts.

If you're up for a bit of casino glamour, Deauville is ready to charm you with its grand Casino Barriere. Here, you can test your luck at slot machines, poker, blackjack, or any other game that tickles your fancy, surrounded by the sumptuous Belle Epoque style decor.

For film lovers, Deauville is nothing short of a paradise. Every September, the town's American Film Festival attracts Hollywood stars, offering you a chance to brush shoulders with your favourite celebrities. Not only is it a thrilling experience, but the festival also echoes the town's ongoing love affair with the film world.

One thing that makes Deauville a desirable destination is its range of boutique shops. From high-end designer labels to independent local artisans, you'll find your heart drawn to the charming shopping streets. Exploring these shops is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Deauville. If you're travelling from Paris, getting to Deauville is pretty convenient. You can either take a train ride, which takes roughly two hours, or opt for a drive, which can take around the same time. From Calais, a drive can get you to Deauville in approximately 3 hours, making it a comfortable day-trip.

When you want a small break from the lovely Deauville, the surrounding region is brimming with worthwhile visit spot. For instance, the charming port town of Honfleur, renowned for its picturesque harbour and narrow, cobbled streets, is just a short drive away.

Another nearby place of interest is the historic city of Caen, home to striking medieval structures like the Caen Castle and the Abbaye-aux-Hommes. Within a convenient distance from Deauville, it's a fantastic option for a fulfilling day trip.
