Lyon is a city located in the southeast of France, between the Rhône and Saône rivers. It is the third-largest city in France, and it is the capital of the Rhône-Alpes region. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and diverse culture, Lyon is a popular destination for tourists.
Cathédrale Saint-Jean
In the photo you can see the Cathédrale Saint-Jean which was started in the twelfth century on the ruins of an even older church. The city also has several museum worth visiting. You can take a boat trip down the Saône river to Barbe Island.There are also night cruises where you can have dinner on board the boat.
Lyon has one of largest traffic free shopping areas in Europe you will find all the leading stores here. There are plenty of restaurants in the city prices from around £15
Visit the 19th century glass roofed old world shopping centre at Passage de l'Argue.
If you are looking for upmarket designer shops try the Carré d'Or district.
The city has over 600 antique shops, in the Rue Auguste Comte district you will find most of them. The Tete d`Or on the Rue du General Leclerc is a very large park in the centre of the city next to the river.Visit the rose garden or the lake there is a botanical gardens and the zoo.The zoo was free when we visited.
There is also the canal flea market with second hand books and car boot type stalls.

The city has a long history, dating back to the Roman Empire when it was known as Lugdunum. Today, visitors can experience this history through the many monuments, churches, and museums in the city, including the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, the Gallo-Roman Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
Lyon is also renowned for its gastronomy, with a world-famous bouchon (traditional restaurant) scene. Visitors can also experience the citys vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars and clubs, as well as plenty of live music and theatre.
For those looking to explore further afield, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Lyon is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Ainay district and the Roman theatre of Fourvière. Nearby, you can also visit the Beaujolais wine region, and the nearby towns of Vienne and Valence.
No visit to Lyon is complete without exploring the banks of the Rhône and Saône. Here, visitors can take a boat cruise, or explore the many parks and gardens along the rivers. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants, perfect for enjoying a leisurely lunch or dinner.
Overall, Lyon is an ideal destination for tourists, with plenty of attractions to explore, from its historical monuments and museums to its unique gastronomy and vibrant nightlife.
