If you are going to the Normandy from the Uk by car you will dock in Le Havre or Caen.You can do the short crossing to Calais but then you will have a 250 mile drive.With the cost of fuel and and odd toll charge you lose the advantage of a cheaper Ferry crossing.Plus a day less each way off your holiday.
Both of the ports offer lots of things to see WW2 beaches and museums. You must visit the fishing port and tourist resort of Honfleur.You are better going mid week very busy at the weekend.With Mont St-Michel. get there as early as you can.The narrow streets get very crowded there are a lot of steps to the top.
In the village Giverny of you can visit the home and gardens of French impressionist painter Claude Monet.
