Saint Valery sur Somme
Saint Valery sur Somme is a small medieval town on the Somme estuary. It is about 35 miles from the port of Boulogne and is now a summer holiday resort.
The towns main claim to fame is the invasion of England in 1066 by William of Normandy who set sail from the port. The port was also used in WW1 to supply the British forces.

The town is easy to walk around we parked in the car park on the harbour wall. It is near the tourist information shop where you can find details of current events in the town. There is an interesting museum and a house that Napoleon is said to have stayed in.
The town has lots of shops and cafes, restaurants etc in the narrow streets.
Places to eat in the town
There are a variety of attractions to explore in the port of Saint Valery sur Somme in Northern France.
The historic town centre is a great place to start, with its narrow cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered houses and quaint cafes. The 12th-century castle is worth a visit, as are the two churches that overlook the harbour.
The Musée de la Marine, which chronicles the history of the port, is also worth a visit. Boat trips around the bay are also available, allowing you to explore the harbour and nearby islands. Nature lovers can experience the area's wildlife at the nearby Réserve Naturelle Nationale de la Baie de Somme. The nearby beaches and sand dunes are also a great spot for a day trip or a picnic.

You must try the steam train a full size engine and carriages. You are taken on a 45 min journey around the nearby towns and villages.We went on the 2 30 pm trip the trips are about 2 hours apart and cost about 10 pounds each when we went.
