Tournehem sur La Hem
Tournehem sur La Hem is located in the Nord department of Northern France. It is part of the rural region of French Flanders. The village has a rich history, dating back to the Middle Ages when it was part of the County of Flanders. Tournehem-sur-la-Hem was the birthplace of several famous people including the writer and teacher Jean-Baptiste l'Oiseleur and the painter Jacques de la Haye. It is only a few miles from the village of Licques
We drove into the village square where you can park your car. There are a couple of cafes and a shop. From the square you can see the remains of the old ramparts.The village is quite compact so is easy to walk round.Which is a good thing as our visit was on a cold and showery day in December. We will have to come back in the summer. A short distance from the square you will see an old mill next to the river Hem. There are several excursions along the river in summer.The river trips will take you to see the church of Notre Dams de la Foret 1718
