The harbour Dunkerque at nightYour first sight of Dunkerque is the large sand dunes as you come into the port. The ferry runs from Dover and takes about 2 hours to make the crossing. The port is in the Nord region of France it is almost in Belgium about 5 miles away.

In the second World War when the British and Allied armies were picked up right off the beach in May and June 1944. The town was badly damaged and was the last town in France to be liberated.
