The village of Wimille FrancePlaces to visit the village of WimilleWimille is a peaceful village about 10 miles from the port of Boulogne. It is around 3 miles from the coast and the seaside town of Wimereux. The village is ideally situated to tour the area. There is a good golf coarse between the village and Wimereux. You can walk for miles along the cliff paths just a short drive away.
Wimille village centre  A French long house in the village  The village was not always as peaceful. In 1803 to 1805 Napoleon set up camp for 180,000 soldiers in Boulogne some were based in the village. Then in WWl the area housed numerous hospitals and other medical establishments. In WWll there was heavy fighting in the area in 1940 Wimille was devastated. The garrison at Boulogne fought a delaying action to cover the withdrawal to Dunkirk There is a military cemetery at nearby Terlincthun. It is hard to imagine anything happening in such a peaceful place. Wood store just outside the village of Wimille France  We always stay in a gite. This is a good way to live like the locals and enjoy the French lifestyle. It is also good value more so if several of you go together.We stay in a small gite about a mile from the village of Wimille every year to do our Christmas shopping.Two miles from the village is one of the largest Hypermarkets in France.Plus the Cite of Europe centre about 5 miles. The family want to come with us this year so this larger House would be ideal House to rent in the village of Wimille
There is a lake in the grounds with free fishing for carp, roach and perch. There are exposed beams in every room and a welcoming open fire in the lounge, and a games room with billiards and darts. Just 2 miles (3km) from the centre of Boulogne and the beach, discover the sea centre "Nausicaa" with its Underwater World.
