Rosporden is a small hillside town located in the heart of Brittany, in the north-western region of France. It is situated in the middle of the Crozon Peninsula and is surrounded by stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The town is about 10 mile from where we were staying near Concarneau. A further 18 miles away is the city of Quimper
Rosporden is built on a small hillside in the centre there are several narrow streets. We visited mid morning so it was fairly busy. After driving round the town centre 3 times looking for some where to park.We had to give up as we were visiting a few more places that day.
There is a car park in the town but if was full and you can not park on the narrow streets. So we took a few photos from the car and decided to come back later.
Rosporden has a long and interesting history. The town was first founded by the Celts in the 3rd century BC, and it was the site of many wars and battles between the Gauls, Romans and Visigoths over the centuries. It was part of the Duchy of Brittany in the Middle Ages, and was an important trading hub between France and England. The town was also a major center of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Rosporden is home to many interesting places to visit. The historic Chateau de Kerjean is a must-see, with its impressive architecture and picturesque gardens. There are also many beautiful churches and chapels, including the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Bonne-Aventure, the Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste and the Eglise St-Pierre-Apôtre. The town also has a museum dedicated to local history, the Musée de l’Histoire de Rosporden.
Rosporden is in a great location for exploring the rest of Brittany. There are many stunning beaches nearby, including the beautiful Plage des Sables Blancs. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in the area, such as hiking, cycling and kayaking. The nearby town of Crozon is also worth a visit, with its charming cobbled streets and traditional Breton architecture.
