A visit to the town of Pont Aven in Brittany as a tourist is sure to be a memorable experience. This quaint, picturesque village is located on the bank of the Aven River and is a popular destination for visitors looking for a unique and peaceful getaway.
The first thing that you will notice about Pont Aven is its beautiful architecture. Many of the buildings in the town are constructed in the traditional Breton style, with white stone walls and distinctive slate roofs. The village also boasts a number of interesting churches and chapels, including the Notre Dame de Pont Aven, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and the Chapel of Saint-Laurent.
Pont Aven is a very attractive town on the river Aven the river divides the town in two.We had followed the river from the coast near the fishing port of Doelan.Pont Aven is about 10 miles from the coast. We visited in September so the town was not as busy as it would be in July or August. We found a nice spot to park right next to the river. On the Rue du Port about 200yds from the town centre.
The river is very clean and fast flowing it used to have several working watermills. The mills are still there there but do not have there wheels anymore. That is apart from one which is now a restaurant. The town has a good selection of shops and restaurants and art galleries. We found a good poster shop with some reasonable priced poster of Pont Aven and the surrounding towns. We bought several I still have not got round to getting them framed but I will
The village of Pont Aven has been an important centre of art since the 19th century. During the late 19th century, the village was home to a group of Impressionist painters, including Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard. Today, the village is home to the Musée des Beaux Arts de Pont Aven, which displays a range of artwork from the Impressionist movement.
The town of Pont Aven is also known for its delicious seafood. The town is located near the sea, and the local restaurants serve up a variety of freshly caught seafood dishes. For those looking for a unique culinary experience, there are a number of traditional Breton creperies in the village, where you can enjoy a delicious sweet or savoury crepe.
Pont Aven is a great place to explore on foot. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the tree-lined riverbank, or explore the narrow streets and alleyways of the village. There are plenty of opportunities to take in the scenery, and there are also a number of interesting shops and galleries to browse.
Pont Aven is a wonderful destination for a peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From its rich history and cultural heritage, to its delicious seafood and charming architecture, Pont Aven is sure to provide visitors with a unique and memorable experience.
