Tregunc
Tregunc is located in the heart of Brittany, a region of western France. It has a long and interesting history, being first mentioned in a document from 990AD. It is believed to have been founded by Breton settlers who arrived in the region in the 5th century. The town is Halfway between Concareau and Pont Aven about 5 miles from each on the D783
The town of Tregunc
Tregunc is a small town that we passed through on our way to Pont Aven.There is a small car park behind the church in the centre where you can park.We stopped there to have a coffee and a walk round.It is a pleasant enough town but we arrived at dinner time. In France everybody disappears for two hours at dinner time. So there was no point in staying we will time it better next time so it was on to Pont Aven our next place to visit.
Throughout the centuries, Tregunc has been an important commercial and cultural hub in the region. It was home to several monasteries and abbeys, including St. Magloire, which was founded in the 11th century. In the 16th century, Tregunc was the site of a major battle between French and Spanish forces during the Wars of Religion.
Today, Tregunc is a charming and picturesque village, with cobbled streets and traditional stone houses. It is a popular destination for tourists, who come to admire its surrounding countryside and explore its history.
There are a number of places of interest in and around Tregunc. These include the Château de Tregunc, a castle which was built in the 16th century; the Eglise Saint-Magloire, a church which dates back to the 11th century; and the Chapelle de Notre-Dame-de-la-Croix, a chapel which was built in the 19th century.
For those looking to explore Tregunc and its surroundings, there are a number of activities available. Visitors can take part in guided walking tours of the village, visit local markets, and enjoy some of the excellent seafood restaurants in the area. There are also several beaches and coves nearby, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and other watersports. For those looking to explore further afield, there are a number of historical sites and monuments in the region, including the Menhir de Locmariaquer, a large standing stone which dates back to the Neolithic era.
