Guines


Guines is an old town about 10 miles from Calais heading towards St Omer.

The town has a lot of history one of the most notable was at the field of the Cloth of Gold.

The meeting between Henry Vlll th and Francois 1 er. You can enjoy this account of the history of Guines at the Chateau Guines open April to October.

We paid 6 euros in October 2006 which was good value children were 4 euros.

The town has a market square where you can park and explore the shops and cafes. The first photo was taken in the town centre.

If you are feeling fit you can walk along the canal towpath all the way to Calais or St Omer the other way.

Just outside the town you could visit Saint-Joseph Villages.

It is in the middle of the marshland which surrounds the town.

It will take you back to the 1900 it took us just over 2 hours to go round the site.

You can see a school an old blacksmith shop a tavern and lots of old farm machinery.

It is open daily you can see it in the photo.
