Albert

Albert France a town in the Somme region. The town was badly damaged in the WW1 fighting. The first photo shows the La Basilque Notre Dame which was hit by a bombardment in 1916. It had to be rebuilt into the fine building it is now. At the side of the building is the entrance to the museum Somme 1916.

Just above the house painting you can see the golden spire of the La Basilque.

The museum goes under the church through tunnels. It comes out in a park quite away form the front entrance The museum is well worth a visit the cost in June 2006 was 4 euros.

There is a small shop which sells WW1 items like large brass shell cases,helmets etc.
