The town has narrow streets with old timber framed houses. There are shops, restaurants and hotels you can buy the areas famous light red wines. The area round the town is full of vineyards you can visit and buy wine from. To get your bearings it is worth taking the tourist train of the major vineyards It takes about 40 mins there is a commentary in English which tells you all you need to know.

Places to visit the village of Montagne about 2 miles from Saint Emilion. It has an interesting wine museum. In Saint Emilion you will find the Chateau du Roi a church carved out of a limestone cliff with a bell tower. Under the town there are tunnels and galleries One of the many old streets  We stayed in a gite in a small village a few miles from the town. This is a good way to live like the locals and enjoy the French lifestyle.
